Recipe of the Week: Apple & Pear Quinoa Porridge

Apple & Pear Quinoa Porridge with Blueberries

A Zest for Life cookbook is packed full of energising recipes, made with ingredients that taste great and also help you to feel great.

And this recipe is no exception. I have to confess that I was sceptical about quinoa porridge, but when I tasted it at the photo shoot I was completely converted.

It’s filling and delicious – providing the perfect start to the day.

Always Triple-Tested!

Taste testing our new recipes

One thing of which we are very proud is that all our superb recipes are triple-tested, by ‘ordinary’ people

When we say ordinary we mean people like Emily and me, who are not professionally trained in the kitchen.

First, they are tested by our wonderful recipe writers who have created them from scratch, using simple, seasonal ingredients that are widely available.

Next, Dairy Diary staff test a few recipes each, as well as our family and friends – we are ruthless when it comes to critiquing, as we want to publish only the very best.

Finally, our experienced food stylist prepares, tweaks, then beautifully arranges each recipe, before our photographer, Steve, taste tests (of course, we don’t have to twist his arm too much!)

We are currently putting together our next cookbook, but we are keeping the theme a secret for now.

However, here are a few teaser photographs of recipes that I have tested recently.

And they all scored 10/10!

Sneak peek behind the scenes at Dairy Diary HQ

Dairy Diary new Hq

A sneak peek…

In March we were due to move into a new office, but instead, we dumped our boxes of books and dashed home to work from our spare bedrooms.

Dairy Diary new office

We’ve been busy over the last month, planning, unpacking and putting together flatpack shelving and now, at last, we have finally been able to move into our lovely new office space.

Dairy Diary new office

It’s very apt for Dairy Diary – a converted cow barn in the Cheshire countryside. There’s an abundance of flower baskets and a central courtyard where we hope to be able to enjoy the odd alfresco lunch (though we may need to wait until next year for that now!)

As the office is painted white, we had a blank canvas for our colour scheme.

We put lots of thought into the scheme and the layout though, before making any decisions.

Take a look at our feature on choosing a colour palette to find out more.

It’s a very tranquil and inspiring space, where I’m sure lots of wonderful new products will come to fruition.

Watch this space!

Introducing the Brand-new ‘A Zest For Life’ Cookbook

by Emma Snow Emma Snow

A Zest For Life Cookbook

A Zest for Life has got to be my favourite cookbook to date. Ever!

What I love the most is the variety of recipes, made with simple, fresh and easy-to-find ingredients. Furthermore, A Zest For Life is split into several chapters, providing inspiration, whatever you are in the mood for. Be that something special for the weekend to share with loved ones, bountiful breakfasts to set you up for the day or a filling packed lunch to take to work.

However, don’t just take my word for it… Below are some of the responses we received from food-loving bloggers, which really blew us away!

“Zest For Life gives real food for thought when you are stuck for dinner ideas and we are looking forwards to working our way through the book!” @jemmaloi

“Chorizo & Courgette Muffins ❤️ We had them for brunch and they went down a treat! The little one scoffed hers which always makes me happy! 😊” @lovefromnatalie

‘If you like the smell of rose this one’s for you as the kitchen smelt deliciously fragrant during baking. The cake should be light and delicately sticky, with the rose water lending to Persian flavours 🍰🍰🍰🍰.

This is just one of many simple and fresh recipes in the book and I highly recommend it for someone who likes fuss-free cooking!’ @pottspantry

Make sure you nab this wonderful cookbook before stock runs out. It is proving very popular already!

It would also make the perfect gift for a foodie, like myself.

Events this weekend: Summer Solstice & Father’s Day

Stonehenge Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

Stonehenge is the most popular place for Pagans to celebrate the longest day because it famously aligns to the solstices.

The rising sun only reaches the middle of the stones one day of the year when it shines on the central altar.

The summer solstice (read more here) takes place as one of the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the sun and the sun reaches its highest position in the sky, ensuring the longest period of daylight in the year.

To read more about the summer solstice, when it takes place, how it is celebrated and for a video of the solstice at Stonehenge, visit our When is the Summer Solstice? blog here.

Father’s Day

Like many others, we’ll also be celebrating Father’s Day (read more here) tomorrow in the garden.

I’ve had the usual conundrum about what to buy for my husband from the children and for my own dad. Luckily, I found chocolate and some very lovely hand-made soap in our local farm shop – rather apt, I thought.

Keep safe and well everyone, and happy Father’s Day to all you amazing dads out there. You’re doing a great job under very difficult circumstances.

To find out when Father’s Day is, along with the history of Father’s Day and how we have come to celebrate it, as well as some great Father’s Day recipes, visit our When is Father’s Day? blog here.
