Recipe of the Week: Sausage & Artichoke Rolls

Sausage & Artichoke Rolls

Sausage & Artichoke Rolls

Sausage roll – a firm favourite with us Brits. Reputedly, Greggs (usually) sell 2.5 million every week! And when George Osborne threatened to tax them in 2012, there was a countrywide outcry until he backed down.

Encasing meat in pastry dates back to Ancient Greece, but the ‘modern’ sausage roll was created in Great Britain.

Raved about by our testers, this recipe is a delicious twist on the classic sausage roll.

Eat one or two portions and freeze the rest for a later date.

Succulents & Seashells Planter

create year-round garden interest

How to create year-round interest

With a few evergreen plants, succulents in this case and some pretty seashells, you can create a really attractive planter than looks great year-round.

Succulents make great choices for even the tiniest containers, from troughs and pots to even hanging baskets because they have spent millions of years adapting to environments with very shallow soil and with very low moisture and fertility.

Other than providing them with a sunny spot, all you need to grow succulents is to stop them getting too wet in winter.

Many will survive a surprising amount of cold as long as their roots are kept dry.

Recipe of the Week: Chow Mein

Vegetable Chow Mein

Chow Mein

This recipe only takes 15 minutes to create and requires minimal prep, so you can treat yourself to a tasty ‘take-away’ at home.

The classic combination of crunchy vegetables, tender noodles and egg works perfectly.

RECIPE

DID YOU KNOW?

Chow mein are Chinese stir-fried noodles with vegetables and sometimes meat or tofu; the name is a romanisation of the Taishanese chāu-mèn.

The dish is popular throughout the Chinese diaspora and appears on the menus of most Chinese restaurants abroad.

It is particularly popular in India, Nepal, the UK and the US.

Different regions cooked Chow Mein differently, the chefs in Hong Kong fried the noodles crispy, while the other regions opposite of Hong Kong steamed the noodles, all the while all Chinese chefs used a hot wok to cook the finished product.

May Bank Holiday change

May Bank Holiday

Did you know that the early May Bank Holiday has changed?

We’re sure you saw the bank holiday change sticker on your Dairy Diary, but just in case you missed it remember that the bank holiday is now on Friday 8 May (this change was announced late and after we had printed all the diaries!).

The first Monday of May is a bank holiday in the United Kingdom. It is called May Day in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is known as the Early May Bank Holiday in Scotland.

In 2020, the early May Bank Holiday has been moved from Monday 4 May to Friday, 8 May to coincide with Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the formal end of World War II.

It’s not the first time that the Bank Holiday has been moved.
In 1995 it was moved from 1 May to 8 May to commemorate the 50th VE Day.

We hope you manage to enjoy your time despite the current circumstances.

Keep safe and well.
